Twenty-six riders took to the track today and all found the conditions in this afternoon’s qualifying session very difficult, due to the slippery nature of the 4.005 kilometre circuit. In the end, it was German rider Dominic Lammert who splashed his way to pole position for tomorrow’s opening round of this year’s Suzuki GSX-R Cup at Valencia. His lap of 1:42.747 was three tenths of a second ahead of his nearest rival Hungarian Gabor Rizmayer, with Kenny Noyes third.
Dominic Lammert - PoleIt was very slippery out there this afternoon, both at the beginning and again at the end, when there was almost a dry line. I started off with tyres for full wet conditions, and then switched to ones more suited to the dry about halfway through the session. When I first went out on those, the first laps were very tricky, but after a while I settled down and began to go for it. I am very happy to take the first pole position of the season and now I want to follow it up with a good result tomorrow. I think I have a better dry set-up, then wet, but I don’t mind whatever conditions we have too much.
Whatever the weather does, it’ll be the same for everybody, so we’ll just have to put our heads down and do our best.
Circuit: 4.005 kms.
Weather: Mostly damp.
