The presence of the World Superbike Championship at the ‘temple of motorcycling’ in Assen has been secured for the next 10 years. FG Sport and the management of the Assen racetrack have renewed their contract from now until 2017. The agreement is of fundamental importance for the sport. World SBK Championship meetings at Assen have always been a great success (attracting over 70,000 spectators each year).
The announcement is also great news for Assen’s development plans. The circuit management is planning to rebuild and extend the track and the facilities completely over the next two years, with the aim of turning Assen into the world’s number one motor sport park.
Paolo FLAMMINI, FG Sport’s CEO, declared: “We are delighted to have secured the presence of superbike racing at Assen for the next ten years. The length of this agreement shows how successful racing at Assen has been and is also proof of the excellent relations between the circuit management and ourselves. We are confident that the opportunity for us to carry on working together for such a long period will lead to the Dutch event attracting crowds of over 100,000 soon.”
Jos VASSEN, Chairman of the Assen circuit’s board of directors, added: “We have been negotiating with Paolo Flammini for some time now, and we are extremely pleased with this new agreement. Assen has a long association with the world’s most prestigious motor racing events, and this new contract means that we shall maintain this association for the foreseeable future. We are sure that we shall more than recover the 40 million Euros we are investing in improving our infrastructures as a result.”
