Final plans for the Youth class of the 2007 NORA Sport National Supermoto Championship have been announced today by the series organisers. They include a prize money sponsor and small revisions to some of the original aspects of the series. All three parties involved in this year’s Supermoto Championships are keen to build on the growing interest in Youth Supermoto and are delighted by the addition of class sponsor Heavy Duty Forklifts from Burscough in Lancashire. Heavy Duty Forklifts (www.heavydutyforklifts.co.uk) have agreed support which has contributed greatly towards the ‘new for 2007’ Youth class prize fund.

With the exception of the ‘double header’ meeting at Lydd International Raceway, all races take place on the Saturday of race weekends, which still allows dad to concentrate on his own racing on Sunday!

*** Provisional DateThe Youth class is open to competitors aged 11 through to 14 years old. Eligible Supermoto machines include two strokes with a capacity up to 85cc and four strokes with a capacity up to 150cc. Honda have already attracted interest in the class with the recent launch of their CRF 150 although KTM are also creating great interest with a special retail offer on certain machines which can be supplied with Motocross and Supermoto wheels at a discounted price. Conversion of an 85cc motocross machine to Supermoto specification is a fairly simplistic process, requiring replacement wheels & tyres together with certain safety modifications in accordance with Supermoto regulations. An earlier proposal for a class control tyre has been dropped, in order to accommodate different sizes of wheels (16” and 17”), thereby giving an improved choice of machine specifications.
2007 looks set to become a landmark year in the growth of Youth Supermoto and the ACU, AMCA and Moto GB are proud to be facilitating the arrival of the next potential Christian Iddon or Matt Winstanley onto the UK Supermoto scene.
