Ryuichi Kiyonari powers into this Sunday’s penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park knowing that a winning double will ensure that he retain the crown he won for the first time last term.
The exciting Japanese rider, aboard his powerful HM Plant Honda, is refreshed and ready to having spent a couple of weeks back home with his family.
Kiyonari has a strong pedigree at the Leicestershire grand prix circuit, and enjoyed his first ever victories in the British series there at the end of the his first season of racing here, in 2004.
He is keen to add to that track record to put the country’s premier crown out of reach of his team-mate and rival Jonathan Rea who currently trails him by 41 points, with Airwaves Ducati rider Leon Haslam also in contention should the stylish Kiyonari falter.
The two races have attracted the biggest starting grid line-up of the campaign with no less than 33 of these highly charged Superbikes taking part in what should prove the decisive action in the title chase.
