The ISILON MSS Discovery Kawasaki team is in Ireland for round six of the Bennetts British Superbike championship this weekend, but the news is that team rider Michael Rutter will not take part in proceedings. The 34-year-old from Kirkby Mallory injured his left wrist after crashing out of the second race at Snetterton at the previous round, but raced on at the Isle of Man TT races earlier this month. It was only after the Senior race where he finished eighth, that a scan revealed that the two-time BSB runner-up had in fact broken the scaphoid bone in his wrist. Michael travelled to Mondello Park in County Kildare with the team, but after consultation with Toby Branfoot, BSB’s resident doctor, he and the team decided that Michael should not take part in the weekend’s racing. Instead team-mate Stuart Easton will have a busy weekend, running both ZX-6R and ZX-10R Ninjas in both the Supersport and Superbike classes. It is hoped that Michael will be back in action in time for Knockhill at the end of the month.
Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
“Obviously I wanted to race, but after seeing the X-rays, Toby advised me not to ride this weekend as I could displace the bone if I crash and that is not good! So the best thing to do is to get it in plaster today and leave it until Knockhill. I will be having an MRI scan next week to see if the bone needs pinning, and if it does I’ll have that done on Thursday. I’m just pleased it’s not my Guinness drinking wrist! The team has decided to give Stuart a run-out on the superbikes and do the best he can. He’s got a big task doing three races on Sunday, but I’m here to help him in any way I can and I think he could surprise a few people.”
Stuart Easton, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
“It’s really wet here at Mondello at the moment, so I’m wondering what I’ve let myself in for! I’ve heard the weather is supposed to get better over the weekend, so let’s hope so. I’m looking forward to riding the superbikes again, as I rode them at the North West 200. That was a different situation completely, as you ride it as fast as you dare at the North West, not as fast as you can, like you do on short circuits. I’ve ridden superbikes before so I know what to expect and I know it’s a one-off, so I’m just going to try and enjoy it and do my best.”
Nick Morgan, Team Owner
“It’s a shame for Michael not to be able to race, but this is the right decision to make. We’re happy to give Stuart a run-out on the big bikes and it will be interesting to see how he does.”
