Essex-based ISILON MSS Discovery Kawasaki is hoping for more good luck at the high-speed circuit of Thruxton, this weekend. The Hampshire track is home to the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and MAXXIS British Supersport Championship. At the opening round at Brands Hatch over the Bank Holiday weekend, the team experienced the lows and the highs of racing, suffering a number of technical difficulties before gaining some good points during all three races.
Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R “We really don’t know what shape we’re going to be in yet at Thruxton. We have to take every day as it comes see how the bike handles in that first session. That’s the way we have to handle things at the moment. One thing I think we will be is down on power, which could be a major headache as Thruxton is one of the fastest tracks on the calendar. Either way the team and myself will be trying 110% again, like we did at Brands Hatch and fingers crossed we could get some more points.”
Stuart Easton, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R “I’m not too sure how the bike will suit the track, but it’s one of my favourite circuits and the weather’s looking good so hopefully we can get a good result. We’ve just got to suck it and see, I guess. The bike’s top-end is decent, but as it’s a brand-new bike we’re developing it a lot at the moment. We do have some issues with chassis set-up, leaving me low on corner-speed, which is a big issue around Thruxton with its fast corners. If we can make in-roads with geometry set-up, then we could have a good race.”
Nick Morgan, Team Owner“I have to say I’m not a fan of races in such quick succession as it really penalises the smaller teams – especially ones like us who didn’t know we were going Superbike racing until Christmas time! Still, we can’t change that so we’re going to give it our best shot. I know people talk about Thruxton being a horsepower circuit, but it’s actually almost as much of a chassis circuit. You need one that works well to carry the corner speed so that’s what we’re going to be working on all weekend with both riders.”
Stuart Simmonds, Joint Team Owner“After Brands where we had bad luck in qualifying and then good luck in the race we’re hoping for good luck on both days at Thruxton. We may need it, as we know we’re a little behind with development on the Ninja ZX-10R and a bit low on top-end speed. With the 600, we’re further along, but we need Stuart and his team to address some handling issues to get the bike set-up to his liking. I’m sure the team will give it their all once more.”
Superbike racing starts at 1pm on Sunday, April 15th, at Thruxton, in Hampshire. The race action will be shown on ITV1 at 2.40pm and on Sky Sports Xtra at 7pm on the same day.
