BOS exhausts of the Netherlands have introduced aftermarket silencers for two of the most popular 2007 model sports bikes, the Honda CBR600-RR and Yamaha R1. Both are styled to enhance the appearance of the machines and deliver a more aggressive exhaust note in a road-legal package. BOS has been manufacturing exhausts since 1965 and uses the absorption type of silencer, which produces a distinctive sound without breaking strict European noise limits. Every silencer is specially designed for the make and model of motorcycle, with its own specific inside diameter tube, length and damping material. BOS pioneered removable ‘dB eaters’ 10 years ago and this design concept has been adopted by most of the leading exhaust manufacturers.
The silencer for Honda’s supersport 600 is oval, but also tapered, wider at the adapter by the connector pipe and narrowing at the exit. It can be mounted with or without the original plastic side heat shields and at just 2.9KG is 30% lighter than the ‘original equipment’ item. The BOS CBR600RR system is EC approved with a removable dB eater and retails for £319 inc. VAT.
BOS has developed new conical slip-ons for the latest model of the Yamaha R1. These silencers are also tapered and follow the shape of the rear seat cover. This makes the tail much sharper than when regular oval silencers are fitted, as they bulge out at the sides. The BOS silencers are also shorter, so they do not cover the tail. They have a distinctive new ‘shot-blasted’ alloy silencer sleeve - which has exactly the same finish as titanium but is less expensive - and are EC approved, with a removable dB eater. The Yamaha R1 silencers retail for £499 inc. VAT and are road legal.
