September 2006, Imola (Italy) – With all the titles still to be assigned and only two rounds left in SBK, everyone is ready to race at Imola, one of the most famous circuits in the world. Just last Sunday on this track the Italian Championship found its winner in Marco Borciani, racing with Pirelli in the SBK class.

The race demonstrated the new layout of the track, changed from last year and now a touch slower. The change at the “Variante Alta” forces the riders onto a different trajectory through the chicane, the ideal line of last year would see them on the grass this year and so it is impossible to compare the lap times from last season.

For the Superbike riders, Pirelli brings to Imola a total of four different fronts and four different rears, plus, as always, the qualifying rear.

Part of the rear spectrum once again is the 200 mm tyre, the “big one”, that Pirelli brings to some circuits to offer more traction - especially in the fast, long corners, where a wider contact patch is desired.

In Supersport class there are 2 fronts and 3 rears available, and the interesting thing will be the comparison between two different racing tyres. In Misano Pirelli presented the new DIABLO SUPERCORSA, which has beaten laptimes and the track records in every circuit ever since, so much so that both the technicians and the riders stopped using the DRAGON SUPERCORSA (used in the FIM CUP and still winning in the Nationals). Here there will be also the DRAGON SUPERCORSA, representing the soft solution for the SSP race.

The total amount of tyres brought by Pirelli, across all classes, is more than 6,000 units.
