Dijon Compton secured his first podium of the 2007 season this weekend at Snetterton Circuit, Norfolk, in the Metzeler National Superstock Cup Championships. The 28-year-old from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire stood in third position on the podium, his first rostrum visit since racing in the British Superbike Cup in 2004. Compton who started from 11th on the grid had a great race moving his way confidently through the field and bringing the Astro Kawasaki home in a stunning third place. From the third row the Yorkshireman gained a fantastic start and was up to sixth after the first lap and fourth after the second lap, after passing Dean Johnson and Tom Clegg. Lap four saw Compton move up to third past Jonathan Howarth and hold his position for the remainder of the 14-lap race.

After changes they made at Oulton Park and further changes to the Kawasaki this weekend at Snetterton the team are now moving in the right direction and getting the results that they had hoped for at the beginning of the season.

Commenting a delighted Compton said

“It’s great to be back up on the podium as it’s been three years since I have been there. I’m still having a few little hiccups with the bike whereby I am struggling for grip into fast bumpy corners, we’re trying to work on this and find out what is causing it. We’ve made some huge progress at the last two races and moving in the direction that I feel very happy with. I had a weekend away last weekend and went to Snetterton feeling recharged and ready to race again. From first practice through to the warm up session on Sunday we made a number of changes and each time the bike got better and better.

I took three seconds off the time that I did there back in March and I’m feeling a lot more at ease with how it works now. I had to be fairly aggressive on the first few laps of the race to push my way up through the field and not get left behind. Once I was in third, the leaders had already bridged too much of a gap and I didn’t want to risk throwing it down the road so I settled for third. I’m hoping to race at Mondello Park in the main Superstock Championship and just waiting on confirmation of my entry now.”

Dijon is now lying in 10th position in the overall Championship.
