The British company widely recognised as world leaders in impact protection, Planet Knox, will be supporting British rider James Ellison in more ways than one as he battles for Britain in MotoGP on board a Tech 3 Yamaha M1. Ellison will be racing in a Knox Contour back protector, which is ergonomically shaped to hug the spine, and has set new standards in terms of comfort, lightness and protection.
“Until now we’ve successfully concentrated our sponsorship in British Superbikes, with half of the Champions since 2000 relying on Knox for protection,” explains Knox MD Geoff Travell. “Now that we’re expanding into so many overseas markets, its time to be promoting our products at an international level and who better to represent us than James in MotoGP?”
Knox have expanded the Contour range for 2006 to include two new race models, bringing the total size choices to five. The latest back protectors are designed for racers and track day enthusiasts, with a 5cm longer ‘tail’ that covers the coccyx when the rider is crouched behind the screen. Like the regular Contour they are S-shaped, following the contour of the spine, weigh just 600g and transmit only 6KN of energy, a very comfortable 33% below the 9kN threshold permitted under the European EN1621-2 back-protector standard. Additional protection is provided by a covering of tear & abrasion resistant Schoeller® Dynatec material down the centre. For comfort, the inside and waistband are covered with L System fabric, which incorporates Coolmax® for temperature control and Amicor™ antibacterial fibre that reduces odours from perspiration, and the inside back area is covered with Schoeller® Comfortemp PCM which absorbs excess heat. The Knox Contour retails for £99.99 inc. VAT. Or you can call 01900 825825.
