The Isilon MSS Discovery Kawasaki squad is looking forward to the debut of the new ‘WSB-spec’ engines in their Ninja ZX-10R Superbikes this weekend. Superbike rider Michael Rutter is looking forward to the two races – not only thanks to the new engines at his disposal, but also because his injured left wrist has improved in the three-week break since Mallory Park. Other technical improvements to the Ninja ZX-10Rs include a new swingarm with a revised rear shock linkage. In the MAXXIS British Supersport class, Stuart Easton will be hoping that some better luck than he’s experienced so far this season will help him net that elusive first podium of the year.
Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R“Croft should be good. We went testing last Wednesday at Mallory Park and the wrist felt much better, I was able to ditch the special grip that had been made, one that I couldn’t race without at the same circuit two weeks before. First impressions with the new engine and chassis tweaks are good, although you can’t tell until you’re out with everybody else, so by the first session on Friday we will see where we stand against the others.”
Stuart Easton, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R“I think it’s fair to say that the last few circuits haven’t really suited our machine so well. We’re lacking a little drive off the corners, but we’ve got new parts coming for Cadwell, which include a wiring loom, engine management system and camshafts. Croft should suit us, so I’m going to be giving it my all from Friday to make that elusive podium a reality.”
Nick Morgan, Team owner“We’re hoping that our engine development programme should close up the gap to the bikes ahead of us. This will increase Michael’s confidence, as we know he’s still got the edge to compete at the front. We tested at Mallory last week with the improvements and we were on the pace. Other chassis and suspension part upgrades will be ready for Croft as well as an improved airbox. With the 600 improvements are in the pipeline for Cadwell, but the big thing is that Croft should suit us much more than the stop-start tracks we’ve experienced recently.”
Jack Valentine, Race Team Manager“At Croft we’re expecting to be pushing closer to the top six who always seem to break away at the front. Michael should be 100% and we’ve made a lot of changes to the bike, with engine, swingarm and other chassis changes. We haven’t got any data from Croft as we’ve never raced there before, but we’re going to get on the case early and chase a good set-up.”
