The first ever auction ever dedicated to the sales of motorcycles bicycles and other motobilia was held by H&H at the Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show in Shepton Mallet, 11th and 12th February. The debut form H&H, which was a great success, saw 89 motorcycles go under the hammer of auctioneer Simon Hope, with many of the bikes going for a lot more over their estimated prices.
One of the fantastic bikes that were sold for £17,050 was fought over on the phone and in the auction room was a 1982 Yamaha TZ 500 J. A custom replica of the OW48R that was used by Kenny Roberts to win the world title in 1980. The four Velocettes on offer all sold extremely well, with the 1930 GTP being on the money at £2,805, the 1939 KSS fetching much more than the estimated price at £4,950, and the time warp 1922 ‘Ladies’ making over three times more than the expected £6,600. The ex-Gary Nixon 1975 Suzuki 750 Racing also sold very well, finding a new owner and home for £9,900.
Auctioneer Simon Hope said, "We were delighted with the way things went at Shepton Mallet and feel it has given us a firm foundation on which to build in the years to come. Details of our next dedicated motorcycle sale will be announced shortly and George Beale and his team are already busy lining up another attractive selection of machines for that event."
The real attraction amongst the all of the bicycles was a 1950s Winged Wheel Cycle Motor from BSA, which was on the money at £460, while a huge, three-part enamel Raleigh wall sign from the 1920s was notable among the motobilia lots, eventually fetching £1,100. The bicycles that continue to be favourable were both the Raleigh and the BSA ones on offer; they fetched an amazing £275 apiece.
