This extraordinary film captures the essence, passion and atmosphere of one of the ultimate races in the world. The Isle of Man TT is a phenomenon, renowned around the world as the toughest test of man and machine – pitting the talents and bravery of some of the greatest motorcycle racers ever against 37.73 miles of awesome tarmac. In 2003 director Andy Stickland documented the TT, taking viewers closer to the event than ever before and giving fans access to areas they seldom see, during what was a milestone year. The result was the evocative and highly regarded TT: A Film Documentary. In time for the Centenary of the TT, Stickland has updated his amazing film.

It now features almost 15 minutes of extra footage, and Stickland has created a brand new film – The Director’s Return – that updates the stories of many of those featured in the original documentary.

In The Director’s Return, Stickland revisits the Isle of Man to find out how lives have changed, catching up with leading riders, the characters who contributed so much to his film and the Island’s very own Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle – whose career-ending smash was so graphically captured in TT: A Film Documentary.

It also reflects on the tragic loss of some familiar faces from the documentary – just like the original film, it fearlessly examines every facet of what makes the TT unique.

Stickland’s documentary captured a turning point in the TT’s history. With the spotlight on its future, the extremes of this emotional roller coaster of an event were on display in 2003. From fantastic racing, captured in sublime footage, to the tragic loss of TT favourite David Jefferies in a practice crash – the no holds barred documentary charted the whole story.

For the first time, all the elements that create this incredible festival were brought together – the sights, sounds, people, passion. Radio TT commentary, intimate interviews, unprecedented access and a bold, candid style made this an important record of a pivotal year in the event’s heritage.

In his return to the Island, Stickland documents how the TT has undergone the painful process of change, its supporters determined to ensure its future. The Centenary TT will set the tone for a successful future, and it is hoped this landmark celebration will be captured in another film later this year.

TT: A Film Documentary is an epic record of what makes the Isle of Man TT.

Leading riders including John McGuinness, Adrian Archibald and Ian Lougher reveal the attraction of the legendary Mountain Circuit, while six-times TT winner Geoff Duke offers his unique perspective on the event. Uniquely, the documentary went beyond the racing and ‘face’ of the festival, examining what it means to everyone who takes part, including the characters who lap for personal victory, not the victor’s laurels, the people of the Isle of Man and the life-long fans.

The Director’s Cut gives you even more, and The Director’s Return brings to story bang up to date for the TT’s Centenary.
