Rizla Suzuki’s James Haydon will be discharged from the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital today after being admitted for examination following a crash in the second race at the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Snetterton yesterday. X-rays have revealed James has broken two bones in his left foot that has now been encased in plaster and will be immobilised for six to eight weeks. He has also aggravated the shoulder injury he sustained at Mallory Park two weeks previously.

Robert Wicks, Team Manager:

“Initial indications showed James’s left foot may not have been too badly injured but detailed x-rays taken last night have revealed the true extent of the damage. James has two broken bones in his left foot. Fortunately the bones are still in line despite the breaks and to avoid any direct intervention, the foot has had to be completely immobilised for six to eight weeks.

“This effectively rules James out of the Championship until some time after the Oulton Park round in late July.

“His shoulder injury from Mallory Park has been further aggravated though it does not appear to have been dislocated. There is a lot of swelling around the shoulder and it’s been difficult for the medical team to get a perfectly clear x-ray but initial indications are encouraging in this respect.

“James will be discharged from hospital today and I am sure all Rizla Suzuki fans will be wishing him a speedy recovery. As he will be out for a period of time Rizla Suzuki will need to secure the services of a replacement rider before we next go racing and we will be making an announcement in due course.

“The team also extends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to Dean Thomas who was involved in the same crash.”

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne's physical condition continues to improve following his high-speed crash last Friday at Snetterton and he should be fully fit to participate in the team's upcoming two-day test at Croft on 5-6 July.
