The three-rider PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse squad all took home points from the Brno weekend but a change in the weather conditions for raceday and some mishaps mid-race meant that only Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) got a top ten finish, with eighth in a shortened race two. Fonsi was forced out of the first race after experiencing a technical problem, and despite a few concerns in race two he made it to the finish well inside the top ten.
Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) scored an 11th and a 14th place, while third team member Vittorio Iannuzzo (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) was 13th and 15th.
Race two was shortened by one lap, to 19, after the start was delayed due to a sharp fall of rain, which did not really wet the track. It did cause some anxious moments for the first few corners, but all riders rode with slicks and were soon up to absolute racing speed.
In the championship chase, Laconi is 12th, one place ahead of Nieto, with Laconi on 83 points and Nieto on 58. Iannuzzo has broken into he top 20, with his nine points.
Regis Laconi:
“I didn’t start well in race one and it was difficult to reduce the gap. At the middle of the race the rear tyre had lost its grip and I risked a crash. I was also lucky not to fall down when Muggeridge hit me. In race two I tried to take advantage of the early ‘wet’ conditions and I took some risks to reach a good position from the beginning. But I had no grip in the last laps and it was extremely hard to stay on the bike.”
Fonsi Nieto: “Today we have been suffering from electrical problems. In race one I realized that there was something wrong with the bike and after four laps I went back into the box. In race two we changed the engine and we checked everything out but the problem appeared again so I couldn’t make a good start. Then things started to go better and I tried to push harder. Eighth is a good result but I wanted something more at this track, because I knew I could do very well here.”
Vittorio Iannuzzo:“To take home two points finishes is a good result even if I was expecting something more. In race one the bike started to suffer from chatter after a few laps and my only goal was to finish the race without taking any crazy risks. In race two we still had the same problem but the race pace was better. My satisfaction came from finishing the second race behind a rider of Regis’ quality.”
