The British and World Motocross (MX) Championships’ rising star, Jason “Dougie” Dougan, is fired up for this weekend’s opening round of the 2006 World MX Championship at the Grand Prix of Flanders (Zolder circuit) in Belgium. The nineteen year old from Portsmouth, riding in the MX2 class on a 250cc 4-stroke for the Bury St Edmunds based RWJ Honda Racing team, is no stranger to the motocross scene having ridden motocross bikes since he was three and working his way up through the competitive racing ranks since the age of nine.
Racing with the number 46 this year, the young Brit achieved a 7th place finish in the first race of this pre-season’s International event at the legendary Hawkstone Park on 5 March, although a crash on lap six in race two prematurely ended his race whilst running in 18th, having fought back from 37th following a first lap incident.
A top three finish was in sight the following weekend at Lyng in Norfolk for the opening round of the British MX Championship. However a gearbox problem ended Dougie’s first race, with suspension difficulties in race two forcing him down the field from 3rd to take the chequered flag in a still respectable 7th.
Jason’s strong early season form impressed even further the weekend after (19 March), with two race victories at a British Masters round at Culham in Oxford, beating the current British Masters champion, Brad Anderson, with over a twenty second lead.
2006 is set to be an action packed and exciting year for this rising motocross talent, with twenty-four weekends of racing action as he competes in both the British and World Motocross Championships.
Jason commented, “I can’t wait to get on my bike on Saturday for the opening GP of the World Championship. Things have started off well for me this year with some solid race finishes and also two wins so far. It’s going to be a busy year for sure but I’ve got a really good feeling about this season. I’m more motivated and focused than ever, I’m riding a great bike and have a great team behind me and my aim this year is to finish in the top three in the British Championship and top fifteen in the World Championship, so watch this space.”
