The Isilon MSS Discovery Kawasaki team has taken delivery of the first of the ‘factory WSB spec’ Akira engines for their Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R race machines.

The Akira firm exclusively develops and maintains engines for the factory Kawasaki PSG-1 team in the World Superbike Championship, and thanks to the ISILON MSS Discovery team’s status as the officially supported team of Kawasaki Motors UK, they have been allowed access to these motors for the rest of the season and in time for the next round of the Bennetts British Superbike series at Croft on August 12th.

The Akira motors are part of the substantial ongoing investment by the MSS Discovery Kawasaki team into the technical level of the Ninja ZX-10Rs employed by them in the most competitive domestic national championship in the World. Work has already begun at the team’s workshops in Thorpe-Le-Soken to install the first of the Akira motors into Michael Rutter’s number one race machine.

The engine will be joined by other enhancements in time for the Croft round, including a new swingarm and a revised rear shock linkage.

Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
“I’m over the moon to be honest. I’ve been waiting for these motors for a while and I’m pleased they’re finally here! The whole team has really put their heart and soul into working on the Ninja ZX-10R making it a very well-balanced machine, now the extra performance we should expect from these engines should really lift performance across the board.”

Nick Morgan, Team Owner
“We’re all very excited by these updates to our Ninja ZX-10R Superbikes – and no-one more so than Michael. He’s revved-up for Croft and so are we. It will take time to get everything set-up perfectly, but with the team’s hard work, as well as Michael and Jack Valentine’s experience we’re growing in stature as a Superbike team. Making this considerable investment in the machines at this stage of the season underlines MSS Discovery Racing’s commitment to our sponsors such as ISILON and Nu-Phalt as well as to Kawasaki Motors UK. We’re not here to make up the numbers, we want to be challenging for wins and that takes considerable investment. ”

Stuart Simmonds, Joint Team Owner
“We keep stressing this point, but it’s true: we didn’t know we were going Superbike racing until just after Christmas, so for us to be putting in the results we have so far has been encouraging, but these new engines represent us moving things up a level. I think our commitment to the Superbike class is clear.”
