After the weather called a halt to last weekend’s opening bike race action of the season, better conditions are hoped for as round one of the popular Derby Phoenix Motor Cycle Club championship series which gets underway at Croft Circuit near Darlington next weekend. There are several club champions who will be in action including National Superstock Cup rider Darron Bellworthy who is hoping to make a good start in his bid for a hat-trick of ‘Top Gun’ titles and he’ll be up against the Ducati 1098 of last season’s runner up Mike Chappell while another expected front runner James Slater has moved to Yamaha power in the big bike class.

As usual, there will be a healthy North East and Scottish contingent including Steven and Andrew Black and with names such as Liam Marchant, Chris Lang, Chris Matthews and Martin Appleyard in the mix; it will be a fair old battle.

Veteran rider Baz Utting from Penrith should feature in the 250cc class with a likely challenge coming from Lincolnshire rider Paul Hedison whereas Darlington brothers Richie and Jonathan Harrison are expected to go well at their local track.

In addition, there are various classes for Solos from 125cc to 1300cc, Thunderbikes, F400, F600. Twins, Triples, and both F1 and F2 Sidecars.

Practice gets underway at 9.30 with racing straight afterwards on both days and adult admission is just £10.00 on both days with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE.
