The new 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 1000 is on its way and here's the details from Ducati.
The Italian factory claim this will be the ultimate naked bike, featuring the twin exhaust set-up, as seen on the S4R, Showa USD suspension, Marchesini wheels, the 1000cc dual spark motor, catalyser, plus new styling and paint schemes.
The S2R is Euro 3 emissions compliant and taken largely from the Multistrada 1000 model. Ducati say the accent is on midrange torque and although it is similar to the Multistrada engine, there are many detail changes within the S2R crankcases which are aimed at reducing emissions, friction and shaving off weight.
The clutch is also new, with both plates and housing made from aluminium alloy, which should ensure longer clutch life. With Showa forks upfront and a Sachs monoshock at the rear, the Monster 1000 is expected to be a svelte handler, plus it has more ground clearance, a new swingarm and a fatter rear tyre, set on a 5.5 inch Marchesini rim.
The new S2R has black carbon fibre side panels and three main clour schemes, red, black and grey, all of which feature a single stripe across the gas tank. No price for the UK has been set as yet, but it is expected to be announced at the NEC show.
