Since Friday morning the paddock of Imola was full of people, ready to enjoy the races and walk in a paddock under the sun. The racetrack has benn changed from last year, so the times made in this great weekend cannot be compared to the previous ones, even if riders could be faster than expected looking at the other races and the great 1’48.804 of Troy’s Superpole lap.

Troy Bayliss took an amazing Superpole scoring the new track record, and showing clearly he came here to close the Championship and clinching the World Title.

In Supersport Charpentier took the pole position, ready to calm the gap in the standing and move the fight to France next round.

Air Temperature: 28°c

Track Temperature: 36°

When Troy Bayliss at the green light took the lead of the race it was like he was going straight to the Title. All the Ducati fans were simply getting mad at him, but soon it was clear the race was not going to be that easy for the Australian rider.

At the beginning his main contender seemed to be Andrew Pitt, but then he almost crashed in a corner and lost some time, so Toseland could take advantage. From the 8th start position Alex Barros made a great race, overtaking all the riders in front of him and reaching at the end the first position followed by James Toseland and Andrew Pitt.

It was a great race, with many overtakes and a great fight between this 3 podium riders and the two followers: Noriyuki Haga and Troy Bayliss. Finishing 5th Troy won the Championship, immediately celebrated with a T-Shirt and a new helmet. This Round represents the 1st victory for Alex Barros, increasing the number of victorious riders which proves again how the WSBK championship can offer a great show and the Pirelli tyres allow to every rider to exploit his potential to the full. Alex today achieved also another great result, setting with his 5th lap the new Fastest Lap: 1’50.266.

After Race1 Troy Bayliss closed the press conference with a worning – speaking Italian – to the three riders who took the podium. He was going to race for winning. Troy made a change of the rear tyre, choosing a softer solution (from “C” to “B”) for the rear and started to push from the beginning.

After the 21 laps he was still leading the race, and ended with a wheelie his fantastic race. Behind the new World Champion Alex Barros, with a great race after a non-perfect start, racing with a harder front tyre and ready in the final laps to be faster than everybody else. Barros was using a “D” front tyre, while Troy raced with “B” also at the front.

After the Ducati and the Honda finished a Suzuki, with Kagayama, for a great podium. Impossible to ask more, but Andrew Pitt with his 4th position made the job.

High temperatures considering we are racing in October, but still the soft solution – represented by “A” – made the race with Pitt. A great result for Pirelli technicians, ready to offer a good range of solutions also in this conditions

Supersport World Championship:

This was for the Supersport one of the most important races ever. Today Charpentier had only one goal: win the race, making for Curtain impossible to win here the Title. Sebastien started behind his enemy, while Sofuoglu took the lead.

After a few laps Charpentier could overtake Curtain, and then his team mate, finishing the race in 1st position and with Curtain “only” third. Team Ten Kate made a great race, they actually did the best they could do, and now thanks to the two Honda riders we will have a final round simply amazing.

Last Round of the season, next week, will be raced in French. Curtain is still leading the Championship but he has only 18 points of advantage. Enough for him for his World hopes, but also for the hopes of all the Supersport fans that are sure they will see a great show in Magny Cours.

The Pirelli DIABLO SUPERCORSA today offered another great performance, and again no one of the Supersport riders seem to want to move back to the DRAGON SUPERCORSA, even if that’s still the tyre winning the Nationals.

The Superstock 1000 FIM CUP has offered every race great emotions, and with Polita still suffering the crash he made in Lausitz, Scassa was the man with high hopes. The MV rider made definitely his good job, finishing the race in first position, but then was disqualified for infraction against Technical Regulations.

With the new result Polita takes 20 points (finishing 2nd behind Roberts) and the Title, with 157 points: 26 more than Corti, currently 2nd, with one race and 25 point to go.

Polita has made a great season, and in Magny Cours will celebrate his Title as it deserves. Corti preceeds Badovini of 9 points, and also Scassa is close in the standings, so we will have a great final race next weekend.

Superstock 600 European Championship:

The Superstock 600 class has offered great battles at every race, and Imola didn’t missed the expectations. Unfortunately Canepa, second in the standings, suffered a crashed last Sunday in the Italian Championship on this track, so he couldn’t take the lead allowing Simeon to celebrate his Title.

Out Canepa, Giugliano made a great race against the championship leader, and finished overtaking him when Simeon – already Champion - committed mistake at the Rivazza corner loosing some time.

Giugliano could win celebrating his second victory of the season (after Misano) and now is only 6 points behind the Ducati rider, who’s going to miss also next race in France.

Suzuki GSXR600 is the winner bike, but the Ducati 749 of Canepa and the green Kawasaki ZX6RR of Giugliano proved to be there during the whole season, thanks to the performances offered on every bike by the Pirelli DIABLO CORSA III, able to fit at the best every different bike allowing the riders to exploit their bikes to the full.
