Latest statistics from the MCI show that 16,898 bikes and scooters were registered for road use in March 2006, up 11% on March 2005 figures. The top selling bike so far in 2006 is the new Yamaha R6, with over 630 registrations, plus the CBR1000RR and GSXR1000 aren't far behind, sportbikes are at last making a comeback.
Other sectors showed strong growth too, with Naked bikes up 30%, the new GSR600 Suzuki being the top seller on 166 units. Meanwhile some 280 bikers paid good money to own a Harley FXD custom, making it top bike in the cruiser class. With excellent resale values on H-D bikes, compared to almost any other brand, who can blame them?
Strangely enough the 'unspecified' category of bikes, which include every type of machine from endurance, moped, scooter, adventure sport, to tourer etc , rose by an amazing 140% in March.
