Acumen, the UK’s leading motorcycle electronics manufacturer, have developed an alarm system that can be plugged directly into existing connectors on K6 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycles yet is approved to Thatcham Category One, the highest category for insurance approval. This compact system contains what is probably the loudest motorcycle alarm siren on the market and a dual circuit engine immobiliser inside the main control box. This is supplied complete with a bespoke stainless steel bracket that bolts directly onto existing mounting points under the sides of the seat unit, so it won’t interfere with limited under seat storage.
Plug in systems have two major advantages over traditional hard-wired products; they take less fitting time, saving labour charges and thus reduce the risk of malfunctions caused by fitting errors. Acumen have further enhanced reliability by encapsulating the electronics in waterproof resin. Current drain is a market-leading 1.8 mA, which places minimal strain on the bike’s battery, even when the machine stands idle for weeks. The unit also has an intelligent sleep mode, use an Acumen Smart charger and it never sleeps!
The Acumen Cat1 is exceptionally user friendly and it’s all thanks to the key fob! It can be adapted to incorporate the ignition key and contains an LED torch. But best of all it enables the owner to programme various aspects of the alarm system. So you can choose from 14 different siren tones, decide whether to activate a nudge sensor (in addition to the movement sensor) and operate hazard lights. Owners can even include a turn signal reminder, which bleeps after 30 indicator flashes and gets louder the more it flashes.
For additional peace of mind, owners can programme in an override code (with up to 500,000 options) in case the key fob is lost or damaged. The Acumen Cat1 comes complete with two key fobs, fitting guide, users guide and fitting kit. Expect to pay £299.99 including fitting.
