After Qatar and Max Biaggi’s first victory in SBK with came to Phillip Island, one of the most fascinating track in calendar. Every prediction is difficult, but for sure we are going to have an exciting weekend, with Aussie riders in first: with no victories in Qatar they want a revenge in front of their supporters. Australia is definitely well represented in SBk with Bayliss, Corser, Muggerige, Martin e Brookes, while in SS there are Curtain and Parkes. Wild cards to be added, obviously.

For Pirelli the race weekend started on Tuesday to place the tyres in order in the paddock. For SBK and SS more than 4200 tyres, a lot., in order to be ready for the different weather conditions and for every rider needs.

Nice racetrack for both for the great backdrop and ambience of the weekend, and also for the characteristics of the racetrack itself. It’s a technical and fast layout, with a majority of left corners and a couple of hard braking sections which are very demanding (‘Honda’ corners offers the stiffest braking challenge). One of the most popular sections is from Lukey Heights, which leads riders into the tight right of ‘MG’, followed by hard acceleration from first to fourth gear around the long, long last corner onto the expansive ‘Gardner’ straight, which ends in the ultra-fast right-hander of ‘Doohan’ corner.

The grip is good, and thus Pirelli has brought different front tyres from those favoured in Qatar: here the wear is more ‘mechanical,’ and the tyre does not have the same tendency to slide (as in Doha) and thus to tear the tread. The upshot is that it’s possible to use softer compounds, despite the high grip (In SBK the rear medium tyre “B” of Doha is now the hard, “C” in here)

For SBK 3 Fronts - 4 Rears:

Front challenge between “B” and “C” which have same compound but different carcass (the one which came for first time in Qatar and chsen by all the grid), while the “A” is a well known solution even if employed on this track for the first time. On the rear 4 solutions all new, with also a “D” in dual compound.

This racetrack is very demanding especially for the left side of the tyre, due t o a couple of big corners in acceleration with up-shifting gears.
Here first time last year for the 16,5 slick tyres Diablo SUPERBIKE, great news for the racing market which can count with Pirelli on the same tyres we race in the WC.

Supersport will be using Diablo SUPERCORSA in 2 front e 3 rear specs, and also for SS the range is “softer” than Qatar.

The “B” front is the Diablo SUPERCORSA in SC2 compound, well known on the market where’s the most popular tyre for the racetracks, while on the rear the “SC1”represents the “A” solution.

Once again the normal production, tyres regularly sold on the market, are he to race a WC race testifying the outstanding level of performance offered by Pirelli to his customers.
