The organisers of the Isle of Man TT Races, the Manx Motor Cycle Club Limited, regret to announce that a competitor was fatally injured in an incident during today’s Senior TT. A race marshal also died in the same incident.
It happened on the second lap of the race at Kirk Michael. The rider who died was newcomer Gus (Ian) Scott from Kendal in Cumbria, a motor cycle journalist and road tester who had been entered in every solo event this week Mr. Scott (40) was a single man with a ten year old daughter. Gus Scott was well known for his racing, test-riding and journalistic work with Performance Bikes magazine, and will be sorely missed by all their readers, not to mention everyone else that knew him. Our thoughts go out to his girlfriend and daughter.
The marshal who died was named as Mrs April Bolster from Kirk Michael. The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and investigations are continuing into the circumstances.
It is believed the marshal was crossing the road to attend to another rider when Scott collided with her. He had asked the organisers for a lower race number than the 25 he was originally allocated with. He started at number 45 instead.
