Tuesday the 25th June was the first of many, where Londonbikers and 'Breakthrough to Breast Cancer' will be crossing paths over the next couple of months... Dave Barrington (Barro) officially registered Londonbikers as the lead team for this years 'Breakthrough to Breast Cancer Event' and, took the oppotunity to introduce a few of the members who will be taking part to Jill Washeka, who is the Breakthrough events manager and organizer.
Words by Dave Barrington
The day started with a small let down, when the charity cheque to present our registration fees didnt turn up from Barclays Bank, so it was off to the High Street print shop to take a designer hostage, and have one made up there and then. Job done there, it was off to meet Zepher Steve at a coffee house to wait for the others to arrive, and arrive they did. Taking in to consideration that these dedicated forum members were coming from work and then rushing back or giving up their lunch hours... Quality!!
All mustered and ready, it was almost time to get up to the Breakthrough offices when we realised that the charity cheque was blank and no marker pen!! It just wasn't going to be right to have to write the cheque out in front of the Breakthrough staff so, off goes Steve one way and Elad the other in search of a shop selling marker pens. Elad got back with the prize first and we are back on course.
Now here's the bit where having the cheque made with laminate came in right handy... I couldn't get it right, I wrote it out and and wiped it clean, wrote it out again and still naused it up, this was all to Toby's upmost delight and he jumped about taking pictures and taking the mick!
I finally got it right (Einstein) and we go to the Breakthrough building to sign in and meet the staff. As ever Jill was in reception to meet and greet us, and this time there was a sparkle about her as she knew that we had come together and made the number required to take on this event and register as Breakthrough's lead team.
Once the greetings were are out of the way, we went out onto the roof terrace to present the registrations and the cheque to Jill for the benefit of pictures for our site and for Breakthrough's future publications. First to go up was the Londonbikers.com Banner and Tobie struttted his stuff with his camera.
(Just a Tip Toby, when a photographer wants people to smile they shout "Say Cheese" not, "Everyone imagine Barro out tonight trying to pull" ) Even though it did get the desired effect!!!
The pictures included are with Jill Washeka, the cheque and our registrations. The number '64' you see on the envelope was me, I couldnt resist a crafty dig when it was suggested that I'd have trouble getting 40 people by the deadline, they obviously dont know Londonbikers!!
All went superbly, and after a short private meeting with Jill it has come to light that we are already the talk of the Breakthrough Staff as a lot of them have been drafted in from the USA this year and they have already heard of us through the grapevine regarding, "A better success with bikers here in the UK than the USA last year!!"
So there you have it.... Londonbikers have again laid the foundation stone for a fantastic event where everyone is looking forward to meeting you and congratulating you on another job well done.
Thank you LB.... Thank You All.
