The second practice day of the Australian Grand Prix took place today at Phillip Island. The last free practice session was characterized by the low temperature while the afternoon qualifying session was held with ideal weather conditions: 17° in the air and 25° on the ground.

Makoto Tamada’s day was characterized by an intense work of test focused on the choice of the best tyre to be used tomorrow. At the end of the qualifying session, using the qualifiers, Makoto could make up some positions up to the fourth row in grid therefore, tomorrow, he will start from the eleventh position. The best lap time clocked for the Japanese rider was 1’30.132”. Today, Makoto Tamada covered a total of fifty laps.

Gianluca Montiron – Konica Minolta Honda General Director

“Today we have used the qualifying Michelins to make up some positions and start from the fourth row. The four sessions we had were strange and today, in particular, we could not improve our performance with the race set up. We have no chance than waiting tomorrow’s warm up to attempt the last modifications permitting Makoto to be more incisive. I’m sorry to see that Makoto is more and more stressed when the qualifying session approaches. For sure, this is a limit for the expression of his potential.”

Makoto Tamada – Konica Minolta Honda Rider (11° - 1'30.132")

“Probably, the different ground condition of today is the reason why this morning, I immediately suffered a grip problem in corners and a lack of traction. We tried different tyres solutions, worked on rear suspension and electronics without solving the problem. This impedes me to be incisive in the long high speed corners characterizing the second and fourth track sectors.”
