Rob’s finish was the best finish yet in the European GSX-R Cup he was a little disappointed with not achieving the podium but a catalogue of problems hamper him. After going pole early on in the first Qualifying session. He was having front end problems and was struggling to go faster. Towards the end of the session he had dropped down to 5th place so he decided to go out and try and get one fast lap. On his last lap, through the first to sectors he was coming up second fastest. Until he crashed at Priory. A high speed corner coming into the Silverstone complex. He lost the front due to him slightly running off line and his suspension problems. The Bike was quite badly damaged.
Rob's Dad Phil got the bike fixed for the next days 2nd Qualifying session on Saturday but it was all in vain as the session was wet, so no one went faster. He also could test and other suspension changes.
Race day on the Sunday was a lot different day with Sun shining Rob was really keen to get out and try hard as second place in Qualifying was only 0.5 of a second away. The race was due to start at 14:25, in between the two superbike races but due to a horrendous crash in the first superbike race the Cup race was put back to the end of the day.
Rob got a disappointing start, 8th on the first lap. So he got his head down and worked his way back to 5th but the 2 in front we’re just out of reach. He was really struggling with the front fork on the bike they where bottoming out at nearly every corner. But He had a fantastic race with 2 other riders Craig Fitzpartick the English wild card and Anthony Delhalle the French rider eventually loosing out to Delhalle finished 6th.
Due to the there being 2 wild cards 1st and 2nd they don’t get points for the championship Rob got 4th in the points moving him up to 8th in the Championship with 3 round left Rob is going to work hard to get the a podium before the end of the series.
