MSS Discovery Kawasaki Racing are looking forward to the opening weekend of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. The Essex-based squad – who are the UK’s only officially supported team of Kawasaki Motors UK – make their 2007 debut in the Superbike class with Michael Rutter and return to the British Supersport class with Scotsman Stuart Easton. With their Superbike challenge only being confirmed after Christmas, it’s been a tough struggle to get things together, while things have been smoother for the Supersport machine. Both riders and machines will be ready for the first race this Bank Holiday Monday.

The 13-round season starts at Brands Hatch and ends with a return to the Kent track on October 14th.

Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

“Last week at Snetterton we had some issues with fuelling so a test at Mallory Park helped a bit, but that was on old race tyres, so it will be a new experience going out on Saturday morning on top-spec tyres to see how much we’ve improved. I love the track – it’s without doubt one of my favourite circuits as it has something of everything in it. We’ve not ridden the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R at Brands, but hopefully we should set it up quickly. We know we’re behind on development compared to the competition, but I promise the team I will be trying my hardest all weekend.”

Stuart Easton, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R

“I’m looking forward to the weekend’s racing. I’m a little bit apprehensive as to where we’re at, but come Saturday we’ll see where we slot into things and hopefully that will be at the pointy end! I’ll work hard during practice and qualifying and come the race I should have a good result. There’s been a lot of talk about me not being used to four-cylinder bikes, but at the end of the day it’s just an engine and two wheels so that’s fine by me. It’s been a long winter, so now we can get on with racing.”

Nick Morgan, Team owner

“Sure, we’re looking for good results with Michael and the Superbike – that’s why we go racing – but we have to be realistic. We know Michael will give 100% and we will be continually developing the ZX-10R to give him the bike he deserves. With the 600, we’re talking more of a known quantity as we’ve been building competitive Supersport machines for years. The engine is similar to last year’s so development has been quicker and Pere Riba has helped a lot, too. That said, we’re still updating the 600 as we go along too, and we’ve recently had a new exhaust from Arrow and Ken Summerton our suspension guru has some other tricks up his fork slider, too…”

Stuart Simmonds, Joint Team Owner

“It’s a new beginning for MSS Discovery Racing as we embark on our Superbike campaign. Whatever happens, team morale can’t be faulted and we know both our riders will try 100% all weekend and we will do the same. For Stuart and the ZX-6R, we have high-hopes. We know he’s a quality rider and he loves Brands, so we’re hopeful of a good result. The action starts here.”
