After the successful unveiling of three new models at the recent Milan Show; Ducati UK has announced the retail prices for the 848, 1098R and Monster 696. These three new models will be making their UK debuts at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham, and it will be the 848 that will create most immediate public interest as it hits UK showrooms before the show ends on the 1st December.
The 848 will be available in White and the traditional Ducati Red at an on the road price of £9,500. The baby brother of the 1098 is a middleweight Superbike that can claim some impressive figures – 168kg and 134hp, which equates to being 20kg lighter and 30% more powerful than its predecessor. This impressive new addition to the Superbike family will be available in dealerships from the 1st December when Ducati dealers across the country will be holding a Ducati 848 weekend. Visitors to the stores may have the chance to ride a bike that is expected to become the same sales phenomena as the 1098.
Joining the 848 in the Superbike stable is the new 1098R – the homologation special that will be raced in 2008 by the likes of Troy Bayliss, Michel Fabrizio, Shane Byrne and Leon Camier in World and British Superbikes respectively. The 1098R is the lightest and most powerful twin-cylinder bike of all time and with 180hp, a torque value of 13.7kgm and a weight of 165kg, the numbers speak for themselves. Also the ‘R’ comes with DTC (Ducati Traction Control) system which is fitted to a production bike for the first time ever. The 1098R is expected to be available from the end of February and will have an on the road price of £24,000.
Finally and arguably the most important bike to be announced is the new Monster 696. The 696 is the next generation Monster and is the most advanced evolution of this iconic bike since its inception 15 years ago. Although more muscular looking and with an increase in horse power - up 9% to 80hp, the 696 is no more intimidating thanks to improved ergonomics. A comfortable narrow seat ensures sure- footed confidence and a shorter stretch to the bars empowers the rider to manoeuvre the bike with ease through traffic, whilst maintaining its sporting traditions on country roads. The Monster 696 is available in April 2008 priced at £5,500 on the road.
