A great weekend for the last round of the season. All the SBK classes have enjoyed a fantastic season, and the final round was a real celebration, both for Pirelli and the title contenders. On Friday the World Supersport track record was beaten, and improved again on Saturday. SBK found, in Troy Corser, the fastest Superpole rider, able to set an impressive best lap: 1’39.147.

After the green light, during the first lap, a small crash ensued and caused a new start. A small delay, and after some time to change the tyres for a brand new set, the green light came on again.
The first WSBK race of the day was just awesome, with four riders, on four different bikes, four different riding styles racing and fighting like in a dream for race fans. Toseland, Haga, Corser, Bayliss - the four riders changed positions many times each lap, touched more than a few times, and eventually crossed the chequered flag in that order, to tumultuous applause.
All of them were using the “C” tyre at the rear, while at the front Corser was using a “D” - a harder tyre than his competitors; Bayliss and Toseland (“C”) and Haga a softer (“B”).
No matter their choice, they finished the race with a breath-taking last lap, crossing the line with full confidence - able to improve last season’s racetime and setting the new race fastest lap.

The last race of the season couldn’t be better than this. 23-laps of pure racing, of bravery, ability, speed. World Champion in 2006 Troy Bayliss had to fight for the full race distance with 2005 World Champion Troy Corser, and World Champion of 2004 James Toseland before winning the race.
Three great riders, with three bikes that today were simply perfect. Once again, three different models: Ducati, Suzuki and Honda. And Haga followed up with his Yamaha.
Until the very last lap every prediction would have been impossible, as the four talents were continuously changing their positions and the pace was not abating.
Race 2 represents the best way the riders and Pirelli could find to say ‘goodbye, and see you next year’ to the SBK public, fans that love these races, most of all for the fights and for the high competitiveness of the championship.
Since the beginning of the season eight different riders have taken at least one win, confirming how the control tyre rule represents, for this championship, one of the keys of success.

This weekend will remain in the memory of the Supersport fans and riders for years. The world title was still to be assigned, but an 8th position was enough for Kevin Curtain to become Champion. Team Ten Kate made once more a superb weekend, and Charpentier was soon in front followed by his team mate Sofuoglu. Curtain was comfortable fourth, and all the Yamaha staff was ready to party, when the Australian rider, on the eighth lap, crashed and couldn’t rejoin. Charpentier had no need to push, there was no need to go fast, but his “safe pace” took the French rider to the win that confirmed his world title. It was an impressive race win anyway as the race time improved and the lap record went down.
Charpentier and his team can celebrate their Supersport title again, this year won at the home race of the Frenchman and in front of 61,000 enthusiastic supporters.
A big step in performance was evident – measurable in today’s race time - 38’14.775 vs last year’s 40’12.350. That proves the good job that the Pirelli technicians have carried out with the riders, and especially the development teams, during these months. It has an easily remembered name, because of its popularity: Pirelli DIABLO SUPERCORSA.
The Yamaha Germany Team was definitely close to the title, but races are always unpredictable, and the final result they have scored was a good second place overall. The Silver medal is a great result, but of course they came to France today ready for an even bigger result.

The last race of the season in Superstock 1000 offered a great show, at a really breath-taking race. Emotions were tweaked from the green light, with Corti and Polita fighting it out for the lead on the first few laps. Corti today seemed to be really comfortable on his Yamaha, and offered an exciting show, with his spectacular riding style and many rear slides when entering the corners. This class races with Pirelli DRAGON SUPERCORSA PRO, in the SC2 compound. Corti and Polita offered a good sample of what this tyre is capable of, even in low temperatures, with a rhythm which was very (fastest lap at the was the eighth lap) and the race was run on a variety of lines that confirm how predictable and how easy the tyres are when changing direction.
Polita, finishing second, is the new Superstock1000 FIM CUP champ, while Corti, winning the race, closed his first season in the series with second place.

With Canepa still out of the games because of the crash he had in the Italian Championship three weeks ago, Simeon and Giugliano were an easy prediction for two the three steps of the podium.
The two young talents took the lead, creating a big gap behind, and offering us, as usual, a great fight with many passes. Their pace was really fast; Giugliano set the fastest lap at the 5th lap but basically they maintained the same impressive rhythm until the 10th lap, when leader Giugliano crashed - saying goodbye to his second place in the Championship.
Suzuki rider Simeon then celebrated another race victory, reinforcing his title already celebrated last race in Imola.
The season offered by the young 600cc riders, thanks to the decision of the promoter and Pirelli to adopt the DIABLO CORSA III - three zone compound- tyre was a really great one. This class finds its strength in these three points: largely standard bikes, road tyres with track abilities, and young riders.
The winner of the 2005 season is currently doing really well in the STK 1000 class, showing that this championship is definitely a good way to enter into the SBK world.
Great compliments to Simeon on taking the title, but also to the other two guys on the European podium; Canepa and Giugliano, and of course a toast also to the new DIABLO CORSA III, launched at the beginning of the season and which has proved to be the perfect tyre for this entry level class.
