Peugeot scooters have brought forward their incredible free fuel deal as the original starting date of 1st April had created the impression that the offer was an April Fool’s Day hoax. With effect from 28th March selected Peugeot scooters will come with 9 months worth of free fuel. “As soon as we launched the free fuel offer to the trade we started receiving ‘phone calls from worried dealers to check whether we were serious,” comments Peugeot’s Sales Director Richard Davies. “I guess that the offer of 9 months worth of free fuel on selected models does sound too good to be true, but we couldn’t be more serious.”

Last year the French company took the market by storm with the Ludix, a modular range of scooters with prices starting at under £800. This year Peugeot is focusing on its iconic Speedfight, available in both 50cc and 100cc specification, which has consistently featured in the UK’s statistics for best selling scooters since its launch 10 years ago. Joining the Speedfight in this unprecedented offer is the Jetforce 125, a state-of-the-art 4-stroke scooter with brakes and handling that have been rated as “class-leading”.

The offer is remarkably simple. Peugeot has calculated that, based on average mileage and fuel consumption figures*, it would be possible to run a 50cc scooter for up to 9 months on 100 litres of fuel. So anyone buying a new Speedfight or Jetforce 125 scooter between now and the end of May 2006 will receive a cheque from Peugeot for £90, sufficient to buy 100 litres of unleaded petrol.

It is estimated that there are 1/3rd of a million scooters on Britain’s roads today. A significant number are ridden by 16-year olds, who can ride a 50cc scooter a year before they can drive a car and for whom the fuel cash-back will undoubtedly be most welcome.

Dealers report increasing numbers of families trading in their second car for two wheels and with vehicle excise duty on small 2-wheelers frozen at £15 per year and free fuel on offer, Peugeot are confident that many more will be trying the benefits of a scooter for themselves.

Prices start at £1,599 on the road for the Speedfight 50, with the 100cc version selling from £1,699 and the Jetforce 125 from £2,399 and this generous offer will last from 28th March to 31st May 2006. All are covered by Peugeot’s 2-year warranty and preferential insurance rates are available through their long-term partner MCE.
