With the second qualifying session proving to be wet at Eurospeedway Lausitz Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) and Fabien Foret (Gil Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) were deprived of a second chance to improve their qualifying positions from day one. Thanks to their times in the first dry qualifying session, Riba will now line up on row three for the race, after scoring 12th best laptime, while Foret now has to start from 18th place on the grid.
On day one Foret found some difficulties in the timed session and ran out of time to make a more competitive lap, while Riba was still working on finding his best machine set-up as day one drew to a close. Neither rider set a time on the treacherous surface in the second qualifying session, judging it too much of a gamble because of the risk of crashing. They contented themselves with a few wet laps in the second free session, just to find a base setting if raceday proves to be wet.
Pere Riba: “We did some work yesterday to get ready for a better push in qualifying today but we didn’t get the chance. Not such a great weekend so far but I hope we can get away well tomorrow. The track was so slippery today that it was going to be impossible to find out anything meaningful in the timed session.”
Fabien Foret: “We had a little bit of difficulty yesterday and that held us back for a time and then today the track was so bad we decided not to run this afternoon. There was no way to improve the time so we decided not to even go out for the second timed session. The tarmac is so black here that in the wet you cannot really see where to point the bike to avoid the rubber put down by the cars. I am not sure what will happen with the weather on raceday but we will be trying as hard as we always do.”
