Every race team suffers a tough weekend at some point in the season, and for Michael Hill and his TABOO Motorsport / KMS squad Silverstone was it, with Hill finishing the British 125GP race in a penalised 19th. The problems started in second free practice when Hill’s rear sprocket bearing disintegrated locking up his rear wheel into the fast Copse corner.

“Initially I thought my engine had seized and then I realised it was something to do with the rear wheel. It started to slide but I was lucky enough to hold onto it and just run straight on into the gravel trap,” said a relieved Hill.

This set the scene for the rest of the weekend and Hill ended up qualifying in twenty third, having been in eighteenth during first free practice whilst running in an engine. “I was disappointed with qualifying but considering the problems we had I think we came through quite well,” commented Hill.

During morning warm up several riders were hit with grid penalties for yellow flag infringements, which moved Hill forward to twentieth.

As ever, Hill races better than he qualified and pulled his way through the field to fourteenth place. “I was having a good battle with Sam Neate and Mark Van Daelen who usually races in Europe. I was happy with my progress but then things went from bad to worse!” said Hill.

Hill was given a time penalty for an infringement whilst the Safety Car was out on track, so with the penalty in place he was knocked down the order to nineteenth place.

“We got through it as best we could and at the end of the day the result wasn’t too bad. I really wanted to score points, but these things happen. I can’t wait to get to Brands to try and end the season on a high,” he concluded.

The final round of the British 125 GP Championship will take place at Brands Hatch on the 29th September – 1st October.
