Fabien Foret (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) and his 2007 team-mate Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) completed a valuable two-day test at Brno in the Czech Republic, having learned much about the new range of Pirelli tyres and machine set-up for the race in late July. Foret also tried out a new engine specification for part of the test and pronounced it a useful improvement as the final five rounds of the season now beckon. Foret, currently second overall in the championship race, was seventh fastest on day two of the test, but concentrated his efforts on looking for the optimal set-up for the race.
Riba, like his team-mate, concentrated most efforts on finding improved front end feel when running the newest tyres, especially at a circuit which is particularly hard on both front and rear tyres.
Uncharacteristically cool weather conditions will most probably not be repeated at the flowing Brno circuit come raceday on 22 July, but with all their main rivals also testing on these two days, Foret and Riba will start the important test of qualifying on a level footing with their peers.
Fabien Foret: “The circuit was not in perfect condition and I am sure it will be much hotter than this on raceday. But we worked through the tyres and our new engine specification feels pretty good. We will have to work hard on race weekend to find the right tyres to do the full race distance, but I think we are not alone with that.”
Pere Riba: “The test was useful to us of course, testing always is, and we spent most of our time trying to get the feel from the front as positive as possible. Other riders may have gone a little faster than us for one lap at this test but I think things will be different in real racing conditions on a hotter track.”
