This is the first time that a Motorcycle Manufacturer’s UK Franchisee has offered direct financial rewards for Supermoto competitors and underlines Aprilia UK’s impressive commitment to Supermoto racing in the UK.
2006 has been a dream debut for Aprilia UK’s Official Supermoto Race Team run by Derbyshire specialists SR Off-Road. British No 1 rider Sam Warren claimed both the SM1 Class Moto GB Championship and the Overall Moto GB Championship for the team in their very first year of competition. The young Derbyshire rider fought off stiff competition during the series, not least from Factory Aprilia Grand Prix star Christian Iddon who competed at selected rounds of the series in ’06.
“Without a doubt, we’ve had a great start in Supermoto racing with Moto GB and we are looking to raise our profile again in 2007” said Paul Walker, Aprilia UK’s enthusiastic Communications Manager. “Having discussed incentives with them (Moto GB), we feel that a US style contingency programme is the easiest and fairest way to support our 450 SXV race customers and we hope our initiative is the start of some solid motorcycle trade support for this very exciting sport” he added.
Contingency programmes allow manufacturers to support competitors on a sliding scale dependent on results and are extremely popular in the US where manufacturers of bikes, tyres, oil, clothing, performance parts etc all have contingency programmes to support the popular AMA Supermoto Championship.
A Moto GB spokesperson added “We are delighted with Aprilia’s genuine offer of support to UK Supermoto Racing and this comes after just one year of involvement in the sport. It’s certainly an eye opener for some of the more established manufacturers and shows how commitment and enthusiasm can quickly generate sales. We have definitely noticed a massive increase in the number of Aprilia SXV’s being raced at Moto GB events and this contingency programme will surely further this situation in 2007”.
Full details of the Aprilia UK Contingency Programme will be published on the MotoGB site, the link for this is below.
