KME’s vast and potent motocross arm was presented to the press and appropriate parties on Friday at the Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard. The Dutch setting was also the venue of the opening round of the FIM World Championship. Steve Guttridge from KME presented the details of the ’07 team structure and support: “Last year our 3 main teams; KRT, GPKR and Molson Kawasaki regularly placed their riders on the podium at both National and MXGP races. The ultimate conclusion was the crowning of our young French MX2 World Champion, Christophe Pourcel.
For 2007, Kawasaki has increased their support of MXGP again which helps us deliver an even stronger package this year in both MX1 and MX2 classes. Team CLS join us from France and Team Wulfsport from Ireland and with the Medie team representing Kawasaki in Italy, not forgetting our support of the additional classes for the Women’s and Veterans cups! If we are going to race in them, then we want to win them.
On top of reclaiming the number 1 positions in the MX2 class, Women’s and Senior cups, Kawasaki’s desire is to win the MX1 class and claim a Manufactures title in 2007. With such great Teams and talented riders, I’m sure we can do it!”
KRT, with Team Manager Jan de Groot, Assistant Manager Martin Van Genderen and both MX1 riders Tanel Leok and Billy Mackenzie were joined by Mr Nakagawa, MD Kawasaki Motors Europe and Mr Hanawa, Director of KME in the impressive ceremony to launch the 2007 MX1 effort alongside other squad such as Molson Kawasaki, Team GPKR and Team CLS.
After riding their KX450F-SRs into the VIP facilities where proceedings took place Mackenzie and Leok answered questions and posed for photographs for the media.
‘I feel that the bike has really come on in the last few years and I am sure that it is ready to win,’ said Leok, who took his maiden podium twelve months ago at the first Grand Prix of 2006. ‘This is an important year for me but the Kawasaki is the fastest bike I have ridden and I am confident of taking some decent results in MX1,’ remarked Mackenzie who has won the MX2 Japanese Grand Prix for the past two years.
