Reigning AMA Motocross Champion Ricky Carmichael recovered from a first lap crash to claim second overall at the opening round of the 2006 series at Sacramento, California on Sunday.

In the second race, Carmichael took the holeshot again and this time was never headed, opening up a big lead over runner-up Stewart.

Results and Points (after 1 round):

1 James Stewart (Kawasaki) 47,
2 Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) 45,
3 Chad Reed (Yamaha) 42,
4 David Vuillemin (Yamaha) 34,
5 Travis Preston (Honda) 33,
6 Nick Wey (Honda) 29.
