The Airwaves Ducati team are looking to maintain their form at round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on bank holiday Monday having secured 77 points in the last round at Donington. Gregorio Lavilla now leads the riders’ championship by 24 points from Ryuichi Kiyonari, who is closely followed by Leon Haslam two points behind. Ducati also lead their nearest rivals by 12 points in the manufacturer’s championship.

The Airwaves Ducati team travel to Thruxton this weekend for the Easter Bank Holiday action. The 2.356 mile Hampshire circuit has gained a reputation as a real ‘rider’s circuit’, suiting those who excel on high speed corners. In Gregorio Lavilla’s second visit here last year he showed this circuit suits his style by breaking the lap record with a time of 1:15.557.

With a pole position at both races and 82 points from a possible 100 so far this season, Gregorio Lavilla wants to stretch his championship lead this weekend.

“I am very happy with how the season has gone so far. I am really pleased that I have had two pole positions and I would hope to gain more points at Thruxton. It is a very fast circuit and I hold the lap record here so I am confident for the race.”

Leon Haslam showed no hint of the ankle injury he suffered in his Brands Hatch crash when securing a third and second place finish in the last round at Donington. Currently lying third in the championship, Haslam is also eager to secure further championship points.

“The weather played a large part in last weekend’s race and I really hope that it is not as cold or wet this weekend. I was pleased with my performance at Donington and I would like to build on that this weekend and gain some valuable championship points for myself and the team.”

The weekend starts with free practice on Friday 14th and qualifying on Sunday.
