Believe the Hype! Yamaha’s technologically advanced YZF-R6 is officially the best selling motorcycle so far this year. Recently released industry figures show the radical new machine has sold 635 units so far, with an impressive 452 for March alone. The YZF-R6 has been highly acclaimed by the press since its World Launch in Qatar and clamoured for by the public since the first spy shots. Bristling with high-tech MOTOGP derived innovations, the R6 looks set to dominate the Supersport class both on the road and track.
Delivering 133hp (at the crankshaft), the all new motor is controlled by the revolutionary YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) system. YCC-T is an intelligent injection/throttle control which enhances the power delivery of the machine and reduces fuel lag. The race bred chassis gives unrivalled feedback while fully adjustable suspension can be fine tuned for both high and low speed settings.
Other innovations include the “mid-ship” exhaust system which both centralises mass and gives a radical new sound and look. The R6 also features a slipper clutch (also known as a back-torque limiter).
The YZF-R6 is priced at £7499 On The Road and is available in Competition White, Yamaha Blue and Midnight Black.
Yamaha look to have an awesome line-up for 2006, with new models including the YZF-R6, race ready YZF-R1SP, a revised YZF-R1, Street Moto MT-03, Naked and Faired Fazer muscle bikes and the auto-clutch FJR1300 Sports tourer.
