LB recently travelled to the helicopter pad at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, East London to meet Christine Margetts, the HEMS fundraising manager to hand over the money the LB members raised at the Christmas Party and at the Infinity night in Great Portland Street. Both events, which were held in December last year between them, raised a total of £288.68. Not bad for LB’s first donation to the charity, which comprised of collections made on the nights mentioned.
Being greeted by Christine is always a pleasure, with her massive smile and energetic presence, filling the HEMS shop in the reception of the hospital. Foxy was lead through the corridors and into the lift to the top of the hospital building, where the helicopter pad is located. The panoramic view from the top is totally breath-taking, you can see most of the major landmarks in London with ease. Foxy was taken into the pilots, paramedics and fire-crew’s mess and Christine made her a cup of coffee and introduced her to the crew that were on duty that day. Christine then told them that Foxy was there representing Londonbikers.com and handing over a cash and a cheque totalling £288.68.
Foxy proudly explained to the crew and Christine, that LB had raised £140.00 of the money at their first Christmas party and the other £148.68, from a raffle, which was held at Infinity Motorcycles and LB evening at the Great Portland Street shop at the end of last year. The whole crew in the mess including the pilots and paramedics individually thanked Foxy, on behalf of the HEMS Service.
It was then onto the helicopter pad, to hand over the cheque Christine. After Christine left to go about her day, Foxy was then kindly shown around the Air Ambulance and had all of the equipment explained to her by one of the fire-crew that mans the helicopter pad. Foxy was in her element when she was told she could sit in the pilot’s seat and only caused a little scene when asked to get out.
LB would like to thank all of its members who came to the LB Christmas Party and to the Infinity and LB night, and very generously supported the HEMS London Air Ambulance charity. LB and London Air Ambulance’s partnership, will bring together funding for the service and campaigns for better road safety. Together we can help raise awareness for all riders in the Capital, through education of safer riding. LB would also like to thank Monica Geraldos for taking the photographs.
