The good start of the 2006 MotoGP World Championship twelfth round permitted the Konica Minolta Honda Team rider to make up some positions reaching the eleventh place after the first lap. Makoto kept the position for half race before being forced to give way to Toni Elias. During the last lap he was overtaken by Chris Vermeulen ending up the race in thirteenth position with a total time of 44’05.112” with 24.967” gap from the winner.
Tomorrow the Japanese rider and his staff will remain at Brno for one day test useful for the preparation of the three next extra European races.
Gianluca Montiron – Konica Minolta Honda General Director“Makoto made a good start and was immediately able to make up some positions. After having attempted for the first six laps to stay in contact with the riders preceding him, his rhythm lowered up to mid race when, for a bit, our rider could have lap times similar to the leaders. At the end of the race we lost two positions taking thirteenth. If we analyze the job we done during the week end, we can not be satisfied of the results we obtained. Even changing the bike setting, we could get no remarkable improvement in performances.”
Makoto Tamada – Konica Minolta Honda Rider“After the first four or five laps, I had a strong rear tyre grip decrease loosing much traction in the corner exit. This forced me to strongly slide in acceleration without being efficacious. Even the bike control when sliding had become difficult. For me it is very hard to ride with a good rhythm in these conditions.”
Giulio Bernardelle –konica Minolta Honda Technical Director“During the week end, we continued having a slight different approach to our Honda RC211V setting definition trying to carefully consider all comments received by Makoto. Unfortunately, we did not get any improvements apart from some brief series of laps especially during the Saturday morning third free practice session. We are not able to ride constantly on our best lap times yet. This is the problem we’ll try to solve by the end of this year.”
