Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) ended his Superpole qualifying session in 12th position, and thus starts Sunday’s 20-lap Superbike races from the third row of the grid. Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) found it difficult to change direction in the fast chicanes and corners that litter the Brno circuit, and dropped from ninth in regulation qualifying to 15th in Superpole.
Third rider in the team, Vittorio Iannuzzo (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) only just missed out on Superpole qualification, after crashing when he fitted soft tyres and went for a fast time in the final qualifying session. He now starts from 17th place on the grid, at the head of row five.
The intense heat of the first two days is expected to reduce on raceday, which should make the races easier work for both riders and tyres.
Fonsi Nieto:“I can do better in Superpole. In practice I give 100% and in Superpole I give 100%, but I always make the same lap time. It is like I can’t go faster in Superpole than in practice, somehow. My race rhythm is good and for me it is very important to make a good start and follow someone early, because our pace is good. It will be critical tomorrow to have a good tyre at the end of the race.”
Regis Laconi: “I don’t have a good feeling from the front and the bike does not feel like it wants to turn, so it is hard to ride like that. I tried not to be too aggressive in Superpole, to let the qualifying tyre work properly, but I was so not aggressive I was too slow! This track is hard for me now because I cannot feel when things are right and not right. I am not happy for sure and for me the best solution would be if it is raining tomorrow.”
Vittorio Iannuzzo: “I used a hard tyre in the first part of the qualifying practice and as soon as I used the soft tyre I fell, and it was impossible to fight for Superpole after that. The team made a great job to be ready for the free practice in the afternoon and I think we should be in a position to take points in both races.”
