Airwaves Ducati now hold first and second places in the Bennett’s British Superbike Championship, having scored maximum points in Round Three at Thruxton. Gregorio Lavilla won both races by a commanding margin, while teammate Leon Haslam gained two second place finishes comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.
Leon Haslam, who had claimed pole start with the fastest ever lap of the Thruxton circuit, took the lead in Race One. Gregorio slipped from third on the grid into fifth place, but put in some stunning laps to move into second on lap 4. Lavilla took first place from his teammate on lap 7 and the Airwaves Ducati riders were unchallenged for the remainder of the race. Lavilla completed the 22 lap race 4.4 seconds ahead of Haslam with 3rd place Kiyonari a further 8.3 seconds adrift.
The second race of the day saw a repeat performance from the Airwaves Ducati double act. As before, Haslam took the lead from the start and Lavilla dropped back into fourth. The Spaniard passed Rutter and Harris on lap 2 to take second place behind his teammate, before setting a new lap record of 1:14.890 on lap 3 and taking the lead on lap 5. Once again Lavilla took a comfortable win, while Haslam crossed the line 14 seconds ahead of the third place rider, this time HM Plant Honda’s Karl Harris.
