John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen used the first day of the Brno test to evaluate a thorough programme of testing, including some prototype profile and compound Bridgestone tyres. Both of the Rizla Suzuki racers were able to complete the allotted tests and supply their respective crew chiefs and Bridgestone with some important data and feedback on the latest generation of tyres.
Suzuki supplied a new chassis for Vermeulen’s GSV-R and both he and Hopkins tried new swing-arms designed to increase feedback and mid-corner stability. Both riders also used a new Ohlins front fork development recently designed for the Suzuki GSV-R. The tests on these parts gave up some interesting results that Suzuki will be looking at closely back at the factory and making the necessary improvements for up-and-coming races.
The final day of the test was hampered by poor weather conditions and Vermeulen was only able to do a few laps today to assess some Bridgestone wet weather tyres.
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP now prepare for a three week tour of Malaysia, Australia and Japan, beginning with the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang on Sunday 10th September.
Paul Denning – Team Manager:“We are a bit disappointed that the weather has disrupted the test but at least we were able to get in a full day yesterday and were very pleased that we got through the programme. Some good results, some bad but that’s testing! The new Bridgestone tyres worked well and I know that their technicians will use the data we have supplied them to good effect.
“John and Chris both got through some valuable chassis and suspension tests and again the factory will be looking at the information on those and working on it accordingly. The riders did a great job and provided very consistent feedback, so we can be confident that they gave Suzuki the right direction to head in”
