The HUBB UK Overlanding Event from Horizons Unlimited
The HUBB UK is completely unique in that it’s the opportunity to immerse yourself in 4 days of escape to the road.
Run by volunteers for people who have the itch to travel or simply a fascination with the idea of hitting the long road, the HUBB UK was started by the overlanders website Horizons Unlimited.
It began 14 years ago in 2000, and this year it’s being held next to the Donington Park race circuit in the Midlands between the 19th and 22nd of June.
Turn up and you have the chance to brain pick like mad from those who have returned from long rides, and to share knowledge with other people who are at the planning stage or simply enjoy the buzzy atmosphere.
So what else is happening? Over the 4 days you can choose from over one hundred and fifty sessions of presentations and films to enjoy. Some are from just returned overlanders, some are from travel writers, some are from trip prep specialists and some presentations are just pure escapism fun. Should I mention a bit of live music and the very nutty slow bike race? Or the skills course? Or motorcycle travel books being launched? Or cooking roadkill? Of course I should.
Over the four days there is the chance to link up with overlanding specialist equipment companies. There will be more than 25 companies there and they are keen for you to handle kit and to ask all those questions that there simply isn’t time for at big motorcycle shows.
The HUBB UK is specifically unlike many other shows in that most people book to be there for the full 4 days. This allows everyone to get to know each other and to make new friends. Who knows, you may well meet up with those new friends out there in the world somewhere. The atmosphere is a real buzz and most people who are passionate about the idea of hitting the road go because it’s the one place they don’t have to explain who they are or what their dreams are. To my personal delight, I met people there who I’d not seen since the road. Some I’d completely lost contact with. What better place to share a real ale and to catch up.
If you book and pay before June 12th it’ll cost you just £65. And that gives you access to all the presentations, music, films, competitions, camping and well pretty much everything. Perhaps not the real ale in the barrels behind the bar. You can cook for yourself or get stuck in to the food in the restaurant. Good stuff it is too and won’t cost you an arm or a leg! Check out the HUBB UK website for all the info on everything that’s going on.
