The Isilon MSS Discovery Kawasaki squad goes into this weekend’s penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and the MAXXIS British Supersport series in an up-beat mood. Michael Rutter has some new chassis parts to try out on his Ninja ZX-10R, while draftee James Webb is aiming for a good finish after his impressive qualifying showing last time out at Cadwell Park. Meanwhile the rider he replaced on the Ninja ZX-6R, Stuart Easton, continues to make a good recovery from his smashed left heel, but the bone will not be healed until at least November.
Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R“It’s very important for us to end the season on a high, so these last two rounds at Donington and Brands are vital. I’m looking forward to the races as the team has worked hard on the bike to iron-out any problems we’ve had and also we’ve got some chassis modifications which should help us too. I’m up for getting the team’s best result yet.”
James Webb, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R“I love Donington and have had some good results there in the past. I think I need to move on from Cadwell and get a good result. Donington is a lovely track and very flowing: if you get Redgate wrong it mucks you up for Craner and then the whole lap. I think with the set-up we’ve got, we could have a good weekend’s results.”
Nick Morgan, Team Owner“I think we’re all looking forward to the weekend. With the 600 we’d love a top three with James, but we understand that he’s young and is gaining experience with every race. If he can build on his experience and form from Cadwell, that will do us – although this time with a finish! There’s no such thing as a good crash, but his fall at Cadwell was the nearest thing: he was being held-up and he was eager to get past! He’s putting the effort in and he’s keen, which is rubbing off on the team. We’d love to see some improved results from the Superbike and I think Michael’s fitness is 100% now and the track should suit the bike a little more than Cadwell Park. The most important thing we need though is good luck – and plenty of it. Surely it’s our turn to get some?”
Jack Valentine, Race Team Manager“We don’t want to put James under pressure but I think we can expect much the same sort of performance from him as at Cadwell but this time with a finish! He’s been training hard as he’s seen the difference between riding in the R6 Cup and being in the British Supersport championship and he wants to put on a good show. He’s fired up for it. With Michael we have some different chassis parts to try and the guys have done a lot of dyno work and we’re now happy with the fuelling and calibration work so we have two strong motors. From Friday we
need to get stuck in and test the chassis changes which should help the Ninja ZX-10R turn quicker and hold a tighter line. I still think on a good day we can challenge the likes of the Rizla Suzukis – that’s our weekend target.”
Stuart Simmonds, Joint Team Owner“It’s that time of the year where we really need to get some good finishes under our belts to help end our season on a high note. We’ve been unlucky through part of the year thanks to injuries to both Michael and Stuart. However, we’re lucky to have found a replacement like young James – someone who’s keen as mustard and wants to impress. Let’s hope we get some good luck to enable us to score some good finishes this weekend.”
