German rider Phillip Hafeneger left it to the very end of today’s qualifying session to take pole position for the final round of this year’s Suzuki GSX-R European Cup - and he did that with two broken fingers! Second fastest is series leader Xavier Simeon, with Rene Mahr third.
Hafeneger - 1stI like this track a lot, even though it is very technical. I broke a couple of fingers in a race at Hockenheim recently and it is a problem towards the end of a session - and maybe the race! At the moment I do not know how it is going to stand up to an eleven lap race, but I’m going to find out tomorrow. I don’t know if I can take first place, but I’d like to get a podium for sure.
Xavier Simeon - 2ndIt was not so bad today, except that I ran out of fuel at the end of the session - just about the time that Hafeneger took pole! But I am confident that I can make a good race tomorrow and although I would like to end the season with a win, as long as I take the title that’s all that counts. Mahr is my nearest rival so I will keep an eye on what he’s doing, but I think I’ll be OK.
