On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the Airwaves Ducati team carried out a scheduled test at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire. With air temperatures of 24 degrees and the track at 38 degrees the team enjoyed glorious weather for the mid season test during which Leon completed 167 laps equivalent to 585km and Gregorio covered 118 laps or 413km. Dunlop were in attendance to provide test tyres and technical support along with GSE Racing’s Ohlins technician for detailed suspension improvements.

Gregorio Lavilla is the lap record holder at Cadwell with a time of 1 minute 28 seconds, but during testing both Lavilla and Haslam lapped the circuit under the 1’28 barrier, consistently posting times in the mid twenty sevens. However, Greg went even quicker on a soft race tyre, with a lap time of 1:27.3. Beating his own lap record by 0.798 seconds. Leon used a qualifying tyre to end the test with a 1:27.2

Achieving strong results at Mallory, coupled with excellent lap times at Cadwell, leaves the team in high spirits.

Haslam said:

“Testing has gone very well, we tried many different tyres and completed two 18 lap race simulations and we are much faster than last year so the whole team is really happy. I am looking forward to Snetterton now; after our great results recently and with two perfect days testing under our belts we are looking ahead to the rest of the season with confidence.”

Lavilla commented:

“Testing has been very good, we have tried many different settings and tyres which worked well, it has been more enjoyable as the weather has been good too! I had been nervous about Cadwell but now we have tested here I am enjoying it more and I feel better about racing here later in the season. Now we are focused on Snetterton, we won there last year and after doing so well at Mallory I’m feeling more confident. I understand the bike more and we know it will be fast at Snetterton, there are some long straights so we will have to see how we match up against the 4 cylinder bikes but it is going to be an exciting round and hopefully we can continue our recent form.”

Team Manager Colin Wright added:

“We are very pleased with the test, it’s given us the opportunity to try a number of parts that we were not prepared to risk at race meetings. Both riders were far quicker than last year so we can be confident that we have found some improvements. From now on we will focus on each round as it comes and look to maintain our positions in the championship, we have been doing well but Kiyo is back on form so the remainder of the season will be tough.”

The Airwaves Ducati team will be back in action at Snetterton on June 18th for Round 7 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
