During a British Superbike championship season the Airwaves Ducati riders visit many types of race circuit each with their own challenges and rewards, ranging from the tight and twisty Lincolnshire circuit of Cadwell Park to the fast and bumpy Hampshire circuit of Thruxton.
Airwaves Ducati rider Leon Haslam has put together a description of what he would consider to be his ideal circuit using all his favourite sections from the tracks he’ll visit in the 2006 season exclusively for Airwaves Ducati Fan Club members.
“First I would have the 120mph start/finish straight of Brands Hatch. It’s a very fast section of track and because of the positioning of the crowd in the grandstands and on Paddock Hill Bend it’s a great place to watch the action.
The start/finish straight would then lead quite naturally into Oulton Park’s Cascades with its fantastic fast entrance and great cambers before going into the Craner Curves from Donington Park whose blind off-camber corners are in my opinion the best in England.
Then I’d have the mountain section from Cadwell Park which is an awesome piece of track not only to ride but also for the crowd to watch the bikes jump with both wheels off of the ground.
Next my track would run into Church from Thruxton, one of the fastest corners of the season at around 180mph which is great for acceleration, before finally heading to the 40mph final corner taken from Mondello Park. This is a great place for overtaking, especially on the last lap of a race.
The reason I designed the circuit like this is because all the sections that I have chosen are among my favorites and I think they would all link together nicely. It would be really fun to ride a track like this as it involves all the bits I enjoy and it would be full of great action that I am sure would please you, the fans!”
