Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) joined his team-mate Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) in the task of testing the new generation Pirelli race tyres at Brno, in what proved to be less than perfect conditions. A late start to proceedings because of a wet track surface early on day one reduced the available track time somewhat, and on day two the slowly improving track conditions, affected by wind, were still far from those expected to be met when the SBK circus returns to Brno to race for real on July 22nd.
Laconi also worked on suspension and chassis geometry settings, as well as trying the new tyres, and made some progress with race rubber fitted to his ZX-10R.
Nieto also gathered information on suspension and chassis geometry, which he will now take forward to next test for the team, at Vallelunga on 7 and 8 July. The next race will be back at Brno, on 22 July.
Regis Laconi:“The bike didn’t demonstrate any chattering problems yesterday - maybe because the track is very geometric in design and the corners flow a lot. I thought that we solved that problem, but today, when using soft tyres, the chattering came back, but not as much as before. The important thing is that we made some improvements in the lap times, almost one second, with the new Pirellis that they will bring to the next round at Brno.”
Fonsi Nieto:“Yesterday didn’t go so well for the lap times even if the work we did on the suspension was very important. Today we worked on different chassis geometry. We didn’t solve all the issues but I’m satisfied with what we did. At the end of these tests we have tried lots of different solutions and in putting them all together we obtained positive improvements. Now we will try to improve some more at the next tests in Vallelunga.”
